2 Timothy 2:2-3
…preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
Vicki and I just returned from vacation, rested, refreshed, and raring to go for the Lord. I was also discouraged to see that biblical ignorance is rife in America. I was in a bookstore that sold three translations of the Koran but no Bibles. As I walked out, I saw two pairs of Jehovah’s Witnesses with their Watchtower racks who would be more than happy to share what they think the Bible is with anyone who would pass. Sadly, many of our churches prefer to entertain and affirm. What a joy it was to return and hear the messages that were preached at CCC in my absence!
Why? Because they preached the word. Paul knew what was coming because the Holy Spirit showed him who we are. We want what WE want, not what God wants. That is why we need to preach the word, first to ourselves, then to others, whether in the church, in the marketplace, or in the prisons. America is wandering off into myths and their followers are seeking others. May we be faithful today to this command from Paul to Timothy, but also from God to all of us. Preach the word. The season is now. Shields up!
O Heavenly Father, thank you so much for the power of the word that is the Bible. May we be faithful to preach the word today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
