Revelation 16:17-18
17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” 18 And there were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, and a great earthquake such as there had never been since man was on the earth, so great was that earthquake.
If you are a trivia buff, you will be interested to know that the highest magnitude earthquake ever recorded was a 9.5 in Chile May 22, 1960, and the largest hailstone fell in Vivian, South Dakota, in 2010. It weighed 1.94 pounds. Now imagine the scene in Revelation 16 at the pouring out of the seventh bowl. The earthquake will be greater than the one in Chile and the hailstones will weigh 100 pounds. The insurance companies will be busy. Actually, they will cease to exist. There will be no good neighbor on our side at that point. It will be every man for himself.
When we face disasters like the tsunami in 2004, and Katrina in 2005, we band together and donate to the cause. Some, though, curse God and ask where he was while people suffered. A good answer is to tell them that society has kicked God out of every institution they could, and now that they are helpless, they wonder where he is. The world, no matter how much it goes through, will not repent or glorify God. Revelation 16 tells us that twice. Here, God declares, “It is done!” We only need to be told that once. It is finished!
O Heavenly Father, you started the earth and you will finish it. We long for the day when the tribulation and suffering will be done when Jesus returns. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
