Revelation 10:9-10
So I went to the angel and told him to give me the little scroll. And he said to me, “Take and eat it; it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey.” 10 And I took the little scroll from the hand of the angel and ate it. It was sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it my stomach was made bitter.
We are all familiar with the spy movies in which the captured spy eats the paper that has the secret information so his captors cannot see it. Dismiss that from your mind because this is the opposite. Again, this harks back to the Old Testament and Ezekiel. He ate the scroll in obedience to a command. This is symbolic that the prophet has the message from God but it has become part of him. It is inside him and working in him. Talk about symbolism!
John received confirmation of this prophecy when he was told to eat this scroll. The message would now be inside him. The Hebrew slaves were ordered to eat the lamb at the first Passover so that, when they left Egypt, they had the lamb inside them. When we receive the blood of the Lamb and apply it, we have the Lamb inside us. That is our confirmation that the Word is inside us and is working through us. The Holy Spirit does that. Today, may we devour the Word so it is inside us and we can share the Bread of Life with someone today.
O Heavenly Father, you are the Way of salvation and your Son is the Word. may we partake of the Word of God and praise you today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
